One Fat Bird - Karori

This is the first Blog in my 'Places to Drink in Wellington' series I am going to be doing... let me know if there is somewhere you think I should check out!
One Fat Bird in Karori is the latest name for what has been known for a - OFB Entryfew years as Café 162, through its many iterations one thing it was not known for was its beer range. This has all changed now, thankfully, with The Wellington Hospitality group taking over the bar. They now have 16 taps on rotation and a great selection of both local and national beers on tap. Perennial favourites from Panhead and Garage Project sit alongside beers from other parts of New Zealand in a relaxed English pub atmosphere. They also have an active craft beer club, of which I am a member, with regular tap takeovers and meet the brewers sessions.

The pub also boasts a fantastic food range, specialising in good pub grub and burgers but make sure you bring an appetite as the meals are on the generous side.

The English theme is taken to new heights over the weekends when soccer (or should I say "football") takes over the bar, not bad if you are like me, a long suffering Liverpool fan who was upset when Sky lost the Premier League coverage.

If you are up this way this is definitely a place worth stopping in for a pint or 2, you will be pleasantly surprised by the range on tap and in the fridges plus there’s good food & a great atmosphere (especially on the soccer nights). I also think I have the inspiration for my Christmas tree this year, move over beer advent calendar it is time to take things to the next level!
